For close to 7 months, this has been my habit. .
Waking up at 5:00am has been super helpful because I can get a lot done through the day.
But, I only do it because, I find that I am most productive in the mornings.
If you are reading this and you want to start waking up at 5:00am, make sure you are not doing it because that’s what you think “successful” people do.
Only do so because that is when you are most productive.
How have I been able to do this consistently?
1.An early bed time.
The secret to waking up on time is going to bed on time.
I have this rule where I don’t stay awake past 12:00am.
Every time I do, I start struggling to work the next day.
Try as much as possible to ensure you are getting in the right amount of sleep hours that your body needs to survive.
I know mine is a minimum of 5 hours nnd a maximum of 7 hours.
I feel strong and energized during this time frame.
2.Always set the alarm with intersections.
As you can see from the image above, there is a 15-30 minutes space between time.
My alarm will continue to go off until I wake up and stop it entirely.
The human body can be lazy and make excuses so, a little discomfort ( sound of alarm) helps to kick USB out of bed.
Make sure to use a song you like but keep it super loud and not too soft.
3. Plan for the next day today
Planning your activities for the next day the night before helps to build some element of excitement.
You wake up knowing exactly what you need to get done in the morning.
If you have set out your to-do list, planned your outfit, you sort of feel in “do” mode.
4.When You fail af it, try again the next day
I always say ” to be consistent, we have to be consistent at trying to be consistent”.
On the days that I manage to wake up late or pass on rising early because ” I don’t feel like it” , I don’t quit the game.
I start again and continue from where I stopped.
You will not get it right the first time but, you have to keep failing and trying to get good at anything.
5. Setting up the state of mind for high performance
When I wake up in the morning, I do not just start working.
99% of the mornings, I pick something that will empower me to power through my day.
I read a book’s chapter and I listen to a podcast.
Then, I journal and meditate .
This helps to give me the strength to power through whatever it is I need to do.
Waking up early and not being productive is a waste of bed time which is why, getting in the right mindset helps a lot.
6. Get uncomfortable
When I wake up, the first thing I do is turn on the lights and turn off the air conditioner.
No lights = Feeling sleepy
Air conditioner = feeling cozy
By doing these two things, my brain wakes up and feels the day kick in.
These help me stop turning and tossing in my bed
7. Have a reason that you love
I am only able to wake up at 5:00am because I have a good reason why I wake up.
Building TheStartUpReport is that for me.
You cannot wake up at 5:00am consistently if you are going to do something you hate.
It will be painful and a constant struggle.
If you have a job you hate, find something you genuinely want to do and add to your everyday life or quit
But, whatever you do, find something that excites you enough to get out of bed every monring.
Something that you love and something that adds meaning for you
8. Set your alarm to start ringing 15 minutes before your wake up time
I actually set mine from 4:00am or 4:45 on some days .
The reason is to make the “struggling to get out of bed time” a part of the 45 minutes and so, by the time I am getting to 5:00am, I am all up.
It helps a lot with the lag time.
It also wakes up my brain before time.
